Our
Mission:
The
Computer Depot acts primarily as a resource and referral service
to faculty, staff, and students on personal computer-related
purchases; as well as serving in its primary role of central
purchasing agent for institutionally-owned hardware and software.
It is the goal of the Computer Depot, to provide all Skidmore
affiliates with information on current technology trends, computer
hardware and software standards, as well as purchasing options.
Although
the Computer Depot does not act in the capacity of a retail
store, we are committed nevertheless
to providing quality customer service with a focus on the varied
needs of the Skidmore community.
Microsoft Office for Students via e-Academy - For $20 plus tax and shipping, students can order Microsoft Office and other Microsoft products online at e-Academy. Logging in using their Skidmore user account name and password, students can then choose to have their purchase mailed home or directly to their dorm rooms.
Microsoft
Campus Agreement 3.0-
Skidmore College, through its NERCOMP
membership, extended the annual software licensing agreement
with Microsoft Corporation for '06-'07.
This
agreement covers select Microsoft software titles for
instititutional campus use for Skidmore faculty, staff and students as well as for work at home. Use of these products
carry certain rules and restrictions for both instititutional
and home use. Visit the IT Microsoft
Campus Agreement (MSCA) page, for more information
on how you can take advantage of this program. Faculty and staff are required to submit a request for pre-approval, as per Microsoft's "Work-at-Home" guidelines.
Once approved, faculty and staff may then log in directly using their Skidmore user account name and password, to the e-Academy software purchasing site.
Ongoing
Developments:
Skidmore
Computer Replacement Plan -
IT (Center for Information Technology
Services) has completed the 4th and final phase of the computer replacement
plan initially implemented in 2001. Spring/summer '07 will return once again to the
3rd phase of the four-year, campus-wide computer replacement initiative.
All secondary use machines, ie., lab and student-assistant
machines; will then be upgraded based on the number of machines
falling out of the primary use computer inventory. This plan
essentially provides the college with a 6-year life cycle
for each new computer purchased in each phase of the plan.
For more information regarding how your department fits into
this plan, please call the Computer Depot at ext. 5992.
